How Hit the Button Maths handles information for players, parents and teachers.

The short version: no account is needed to play. Scores and settings are stored locally in your own browser, not on our servers. We use Google Analytics to understand how the site is used, and Google AdSense to display advertising. Details of both are below.

No account required

You do not need to register, sign in, or provide any personal details to play the games on this site. There is no login system, and we do not ask children for a name, email address, or any other personal information in order to use Hit the Button Maths.

Game progress and local storage

Where the game saves scores, personal bests or practice history, this is stored using your browser's local storage on your own device. It is not sent to, or stored on, our servers, and we cannot see it. Clearing your browser data will remove it.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, we use Google Analytics, which automatically receives some technical information when you visit: an approximate location (usually accurate to city or country level, based on IP address), the type of device and browser used, and which pages are visited. This is used in aggregate to understand which parts of the site are useful, not to identify individual children.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site is monetised using Google AdSense. Where ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to deliver and measure them, as described in Google's own policies. Because Hit the Button Maths is aimed primarily at primary-school-age children, advertising on the site is configured using Google's age-treatment settings so that ads here are treated as directed to children — meaning non-personalised, contextual advertising rather than ads based on someone's browsing history. Children's privacy

Hit the Button Maths is designed for children roughly aged 5–11, alongside the parents and teachers who support them. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. We recommend younger children use the site with a parent, carer or teacher nearby, particularly given that the site carries advertising.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and clear locally stored game data the same way. Turning off cookies won't stop the core games from working, though some analytics may be affected.
